GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES 2.2 BILLION CEDIS TO AGRIC MINISTRY

The government of Ghana has allocated an amount of GH¢2.2 billion to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for the year 2026. This was announced by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson during the 2026 budget reading.

According to the minister of finance and economic Planning, Dr. Forson, the government is investing over GH¢1.7 billion in roads, processing zones, and value chains to boast agriculture transformation drive in our rural areas, where jobs are created and livelihoods improved.

He said President Mahama has also directed all schools, from basic to secondary, to purchase rice, maize, chicken and eggs produced in Ghana only.

To facilitate the transportation of farm produce to markets and reduce food inflation, the government through the finance and economic planning have allocated GH¢828 million for the construction of 1,000km of agriculture enclave roads in the food producing regions in the country. This will help reduced post-harvest loses along the line.

He further stated that the Feed Ghana delivers inputs through cooperatives. After nationwide mobilization, 63,039 cooperatives and FBOs, representing 661,687 farmers, registered on the Ministry’s portal for transparent, timely access.

Agriculture also delivered a robust performance, growing by 6.0 percent in the first half of 2025, compared to 2.9 percent a year earlier. Growth was broad based, with crops expanding by 6.2 percent, livestock by 5.8 percent, and fishing by 7.7 percent.

Under the Livestock Development Project, the Ministry will rehabilitate livestock structures and office facilities at 7 national livestock breeding stations, restock them with small ruminants to at least 50 percent capacity from the current level of below 15 percent. The Ministry will also revamp the Amrahia Dairy Farm

The government has also made a giant commitment towards the revitalization of the Ghana poultry industry by allocating GH¢245 million towards the government flagship programme duded  Nkoko Nketenkete, livestock and other programmes, in 2026

Touching on the fisheries and Aquaculture development, the minister announced that an amount of GH¢100 million has been allocated for the construction of fishing markets in the coastal areas.

Adding that an amount of GH¢50 million has been allocated for the purchase of fishing nets and outboard motors.

The minister concluded by saying that the government have allocated GH¢100 million for aquaculture development in the country.
