COCOBOD releases GH¢2.6 billion to pay cocoa farmers

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has released GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to pay cocoa farmers across the country for cocoa purchases.

In a press statement issued on July 2, 2026, COCOBOD said the funds are intended to ensure that farmers receive payments for cocoa supplied during the current crop season.

The Board disclosed that since the start of the 2025/26 crop season, it has paid GH¢34.52 billion to Licensed Buying Companies for onward payment to cocoa farmers. Out of the latest GH¢2.6 billion, about GH¢1.4 billion has been set aside to clear outstanding payments owed to farmers whose cocoa was bought on credit.

COCOBOD said it is working closely with Licensed Buying Companies to ensure that all affected farmers receive their money. The Board added that it has put monitoring systems in place to make sure the funds are paid directly to the farmers who are owed.

The statement assured cocoa farmers that no farmer who sold cocoa through the approved purchasing system would be denied payment. Farmers who are still waiting for their money have been advised to contact the Licensed Buying Company through which they sold their cocoa.

According to COCOBOD, it will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that all outstanding payments are settled as quickly as possible.

The Board said the release of the funds reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of cocoa farmers and maintaining the strength of Ghana’s cocoa industry.

COCOBOD also thanked cocoa farmers for their patience, resilience, and continued contribution to the country’s economy. It reaffirmed its commitment to working with the government and industry stakeholders to strengthen the cocoa value chain, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and promote the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
