EJISU MP Gifts Overall Municipal Best Farmer a Brand-New Tricycle

The lack of efficient and reliable transportation systems continues to undermine food production in many rural communities across Ghana. Despite the critical role that rural farmers play in sustaining the nation’s food supply chain, transportation challenges remain largely unaddressed by key stakeholders within the agricultural value chain.

Most farmers in rural areas live in off-road communities where transportation is essential for moving produce from farm gates to market centers. However, these farmers are often left to struggle on their own, navigating poor road networks and unpaved routes that make the movement of goods extremely difficult.

Successive governments have failed to provide accessible and motorable roads for farmers in the hinterlands, posing significant setbacks to agricultural productivity and market access. The deteriorating nature of these rural roads forces many farmers to trek long distances daily, putting strain on their health and slowing down their efforts to feed the nation.

In an effort to ease this burden and support the resilience of local farmers, the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, has presented a brand-new modern tricycle to the 2025 Overall Ejisu Municipal Best Farmer, Nana Kwame Sebeh.

The donation is intended to reduce the hours Mr. Sebeh spends walking to his farm, improve productivity, enhance food safety, cut transportation costs for labourers, and ultimately help stabilize the prices of his produce.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Agric News at the 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration held at Asotwe, the MP emphasized that the tricycle support arrives at a crucial time as the country explores improved logistical systems to reduce post-harvest losses and ease the movement of food from farm gates to the market.

He added that without an efficient support system for farmers, consolidating gains in the agricultural sector will remain challenging.

According to the lawmaker, the gesture is part of his commitment to empowering hardworking farmers within the constituency. In 2024, he made a similar donation to the then municipal best farmer, Mr. Kojo Ntim of Abenase.

“We must champion the cause of our farmers. This is the only way we can achieve food sufficiency and reduce hunger among the growing population,” he stated.

Hon. Boateng also used the occasion to commend all Ghanaian farmers for their patriotism and sacrifices. He noted that despite being deprived of basic social amenities and often overlooked, farmers continue to defy the odds to provide food for the nation and beyond.

For his part, Mr. Sebeh expressed profound gratitude to the MP for believing in the work of rural farmers. He assured that with the improved mobility support, his productivity will increase significantly in the coming years.
