Nkoko Nkitikiti Initiative: Government Sidelines Poultry Farmers’ Association – Western Regional Vice Chairman

The Western Regional Vice Chairman of the Ghana National Poultry Farmers’ Association, Mr. Francis Nsiah, has expressed serious concern over the Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s decision to exclude the association’s leadership from the implementation process of the government’s flagship Nkoko Nkitikiti initiative.
According to Mr. Nsiah, the government’s failure to engage the national leadership of poultry farmers on the modalities of the project rollout is not only disappointing but counterproductive.
“We are the mother association of poultry farmers in the country, yet the government, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has failed to consult or involve us in discussions regarding the implementation plan and the selection of poultry farmers to scale up production,” he stated in an interview with DailyAgricNews.com.
Mr. Nsiah revealed that several efforts by the association to secure a meeting with the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, have not yielded any results.
He disclosed that while the pilot phase of the Nkoko Nkitikiti project is scheduled to commence this month (July 2025), the association has not received any formal communication from the ministry.
“We only heard about the initiative on the airwaves. For a project of such national significance, this is not the right approach,” he emphasized.
Mr. Nsiah is urging the ministry to reconsider its strategy and adopt a more inclusive approach by actively involving the Ghana National Poultry Farmers’ Association in the rollout and monitoring of the initiative.
He believes that the association’s involvement would enhance the credibility, transparency, and overall efficiency of the program, ultimately ensuring that the intended objectives of the Nkoko Nkitikiti initiative are fully realized.
